Though they are nice to have, lingerie may be tricky to take care of. Once your lace bra gets snagged, threads may start to pull and holes can begin for form. Pretty soon, it doesn’t look so pretty anymore!

Washing undergarments may be the most important part of caring for your lingerie. You need to protect it from snags, water that is too hot, heat from the dryer and sun.

Clothing typically comes with laundry recommendations attached which is important to pay attention to!

But here are some general guidelines:

Separate Wisely
It is actually the most basic rule in laundering. You need to categorize your laundry with like colors, heavy fabrics with heavy fabrics, and delicates with delicates. For example, it’s not wise to wash lingerie with denim jeans with those sharp zippers and definitely not with Velcro!
Handwashing is the Best
Washing machines put a lot of pressure on your clothes. They twist, they tangle and can even get stretched out. Handwashing is recommended but who has the time? Which bring us to:

A Mesh Laundry Bag
Buy a nice laundry mesh bag. Put all of your delicate underwear inside it when you wash them in a machine. The bag will protect your fine washables from snags and stretching.
Cool or Warm Water
Hot water could make threads on your delicate underwear even more delicate. It could shrink your elastic panties and also stretch your stocking out. It is best to opt for cool water or at least lukewarm water to keep the delicate fibers unharmed.

DRYING

Now the washing job is done. Next is to get your undies dry. Do you still need special efforts for that? Sure do!

Do not Twist
It is always fun to twist a wet cloth and see the water come out. But with the fabrics being extra fragile, doing so will make your underwear ill-shaped or stretched out. If you need to let the water out, the best thing you can do is just squeeze them gently, and roll in a towel to remove excess.

Skip the Dryer
Similar to hot water, the heat from the dryer may also harm your underwear. And the tumbling effect may do damage to delicate buckles or buttons.

Exposing them to direct sunlight is also not recommended. If you want to line dry outside, make sure your clothesline is in the shade.

Hang Dry

The best way to dry your underwear and other delicate items is allowing the items to dry naturally, hung over a drying rack.

Undergarments are probably the smallest pieces in your wardrobe yet they serve an important function and it’s important to care for them properly to keep them looking nice and to extend the life of these sometimes expensive garments!
